The Versatile Intelligent Portable Robot was developed by Elbit Systems in cooperation with the Israeli Ministry of Defence's Directorate of Defense Research and Development for the Israel Defense Forces' Portable UGV programme. Unveiled in March 2007, the VIPeR forms part of the Dominator Integrated Infantry Combat System. The platform is designed to provide infantry squads with an organic robotic reconnaissance and EOD capability that can be carried and deployed by individual soldiers without specialist support,
extending the unit's ability to investigate suspicious objects and clear areas without direct personnel exposure.
