The MQ-8C is a newer version of the Fire Scout and is based on a Bell 407 commercial helicopter. It offers a greater range, endurance and payload capacity than its earlier variant, the MQ-8B. The autonomous helicopter system, like its predecessor, provides an ISTAR capability. Combined, the USN has acquired 59 MQ-8 Fire Scouts units for $1.592 billion; 36 of these were the MQ-8C
variant.
