South Korea is building nine Son-Won-il-class SSKs under part two (KSS-II) of its Korean submarine programme. The KSS programme has already seen the delivery of Type 209 Chang Bogo-class SSKs from Germany, with KSS-2 seeing the construction of the Son Won-il class in South Korea to the German Type 214 design. This programme is being followed by the KSS-III Dosan Ahn Chang-Ho class. The vessels are built by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) and Hyundai Heavy
Industries.
