The Potsdam-class OPVs have been designed and built by Fassmer from their OPV86 BP, which was specifically designed for the requirements of the German Coast Guard (Bundespolizei). Three custom-made vessels were ordered in 2016 featuring diesel engines and exhaust systems compliant with IMO Tier III and other performance aspects required for operation in the North and Baltic Sea.
