The Enhanced San Giusto class consists of the Kalaat Beni-Abbes LPD, which is a technological enhancement of the Italian Navy’s San Giusto amphibi-ous-class vessel. Built by Fincantieri, the ship is in service with the Algerian Navy, with another ship of this type currently under construction for the Qatari Emiri Navy. The vessel’s most prominent feature is an internal floodable dock for accommodating landing craft. The Algerian ship first entered service in 2014, while Qatar’s ship is part of a seven-ship contract
that began construction in 2018 and is due to be delivered by the end of 2024.
