The Multi-Mission Surface Combatant (MMSC) is a derivative of the USN’s Freedom- and Independence-class Littoral Combat Ships. Designed by Lockheed Martin, the MMSC was selected for the Royal Saudi Naval Forces (RSNF) in 2015. Lockheed Martin received the contract to begin production of the four MMSCs for Saudi Arabia in July 2018, with construction beginning in October 2019, built at the Fincantieri Marinette Marine shipyard. The MMSC is designed to confront modern maritime and economic security threats in both
littoral and open ocean operations.
