The F126 frigate-class has been developed under the MKS 180 frigate programme for the German Navy, known as the Mehrzweckkampfschiff 180. It is designed to produce one of the largest surface warships since the Second World War. Damen was selected in early 2020, and a $5.16 billion contract was signed in June 2020 for the construction of four MSK 180 frigates, with options for an additional two. These are expected to enter service between 2028 and
2031.
