The H160M is being developed by Airbus to meet the requirements of the French military for the Joint Light Helicopter (Hélicoptère Interarmées Léger, or HIL) programme. It is scheduled to enter service with the French Armed Forces in 2026 and replace six types of helicopters, including the SA 341/342 Gazelle, Alouette III, AS365 Dauphin SP and AS 555 Fennec. The platform will be designated as ‘Guépard’
(Cheetah).
