The HJT-36 Sitara is hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) designed and developed the subsonic HJT-36 Sitara single-engine aircraft to meet the requirements of the Indian Air Force (IAF) and Indian Navy for an Intermediate Jet Trainer (IJT). The first of six prototypes made its first flight in 2003, but development has been protracted, forcing the IAF to extend the life of its Hindustan Jet Trainer 16 (HJT-16) Kiran Mk I and Mk II aircraft from 2014 to
2018.
