The KC-10 Extender is a tanker/transport aircraft developed for the USAF by McDonnell Douglas (now part of Boeing). It was derived from the company’s three-engine DC-10 airliner and retains 88% commonality of components with the commercial version. From 1979-87, 60 KC-10s were built for the USAF, of which 59 remain in service. Two DC-10s were converted to the KDC-10 configuration for the Royal Netherlands Air
Force.
