The Tu-160M is the modernised variant of the original Tu-160 Blackjack strategic bomber (see separate entry) developed in the 1980s for the Soviet Air Force. It features a new avionics and control system, a glass cockpit and more efficient NK-32-02 engines. Flight testing and evaluation of the Tu-160M upgrade package is expected to run until 2022. The first production-standard upgraded Tu-160M’s are expected to be delivered to the Russian Aerospace Forces in 2023 at the
earliest.
