The F-35I Adir is an F-35A Lightning II variant customised to meet the requirements of the Israel Defense Forces to replace the F-16 fleet in service. On 15 February 2015, Israel signed an FMS deal to procure 33 F-35I Adir fighter aircraft with an option of 17. Israel signed a Letter of Offer and Acceptance Amendment on 25 August 2017 to exercise their option to purchase an additional 17 aircraft, bringing the planned fleet total to 50 fighters for $7.8
billion.
