The J-10 (NATO reporting name Firebird) is a multirole fighter developed by China to replace second-generation J-7 and Q-5 aircraft. The aircraft performed its maiden flight in 1998 and entered service in 2005. The original J-10 configuration has been improved since 2005, and the Aviation Industry Corporation of China now produces more advanced J-10B and J-10C variants. These feature improved engines, a lower radar cross-section and an AESA radar on the J-10C. It is powered by one Saturn Lyulka AL-31FN engine
producing 132.5kN of thrust with afterburn. China is moving to the locally produced WS10B to power its J-10C fleet.
