The US Army is leading the Joint Assault Bridge (JAB) project to replace legacy M60A1-based bridge launchers in service with itself and USMC with an M1-based armoured vehicle-launched bridge (AVLB). A draft executive summary for the production and deployment phase for JAB was released in December 2014. Legacy AVLBs were to have been replaced by the M104 Wolverine AVLBs developed in the 1990s. General Dynamics Land Systems delivered 44 Wolverines to the army from 2003 before the project, which was expected to
deliver 465 platforms, was cancelled for budgetary reasons.
