KMW’s 4x4 Dingo 2 is a follow-on to the Dingo 1 All Protected Vehicle (APV) developed under contract to the German BWB procurement agency in the mid-1990s for use by German peacekeepers in the former Yugoslavia. Some 150 Dingo 1s were produced for the German Army. In 2002-03, KMW developed the Dingo 2 based on the Mercedes-Benz Unimog U-5000 chassis to provide an all-protected vehicle with more capacity. In 2004, Germany placed the first order for 52 vehicles to be delivered that same year and Austria placed an
order for 20 vehicles in September 2004.
