The Hunan Jianglu Machinery Group (a subsidiary of Norinco) developed the tracked ZBD-05 amphibious IFV to meet the requirements of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Navy Marine Corps (PLANMC). Equipped with two water jets and capable of accommodating up to 11 marines in its rear troop compartment, this vehicle was specifically designed to support ship-to-shore amphibious operations and beach assaults. Unveiled by the PLANMC in 2009, the vehicle has since been offered to export customers as the VN18. It has also
been developed into the ZTD-05/VN16 fire support variant armed with a 105mm gun.
