Since 2011, the US Army and BAE Systems have been developing modifications for the Bradley Fighting Vehicle platform to address concerns regarding its ever-increasing weight, limited power generation capabilities and deteriorating mobility. BAE Systems has been contracted to install these modifications on older versions of the M2 Bradley Fighting Vehicle and the M7 Bradley Fire Support Team Vehicle (BFIST), creating the M2A4 and M7A4, respectively. These upgrades will ensure that the platform can remain viable up to
2050. Compared to previous versions of the Bradley, the A4 upgrade has an uprated suspension, more powerful engine, an independent commander’s sight, more capable electronic architecture and improved networking capabilities. This enables it to cope with the increased weight of additional upgrades and provides sufficient electrical power for new subsystems such as an APS to be installed on the vehicle.
