Hyundai Rotem began to develop the KW2 8x8 armoured vehicle in 2012 as a private venture to meet the requirements of the Republic of Korea Army (ROKA) for a Wheeled Armoured Vehicle. After a competitive evaluation, the KW1 Scorpion 6x6 and KW2 were adopted by the ROKA as the K806 and K808, respectively. More heavily armoured than the K806 and possessing an amphibious capability, the K808 is designed to fulfil a range of frontline combat duties and can be adapted to specialised roles such as air defence, mortar
carrier and command post.
