The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) unveiled the Eitan 8x8 APC demonstrator on 1 August 2016. It is the first wheeled APC developed for the IDF by the MoD’s Tank Programme Administration (MANTAK) and is designed to replace some of the army’s US-supplied tracked M113s, offering higher levels of protection. The development of the Eitan was influenced by lessons learned from Operation Protective Edge against Hamas in Gaza in
2014.
