Hyundai Rotem began to develop the KW1 Scorpion 6x6 armoured vehicle in 2012 as a private venture to meet the requirements of the Republic of Korea Army (ROKA) for a Wheeled Armoured Vehicle (WAV). After a competitive evaluation, the KW1 and KW2 8x8 were adopted by the ROKA as the K806 and K808, respectively. Lighter, less heavily armoured and lacking the amphibious capability of its 8x8 counterpart, the K806 is designed for security duties, convoy escort and reconnaissance missions behind the front
lines.
