The 100mm-armed TR-85-M1 is a modernised version of the TR-85, a Romanian-built version of the Soviet T-55 tank. The TR-85 was produced from 1986-90, and in 1994, the Romanian Army launched a project to modernise its TR-85 fleet to the TR-85-M1 standard using Western components. About 54 tanks had been modernised by 2017. Additionally, there are no export customers for the modernisation
