The Leopard 2 was developed jointly by KMW and Rheinmetall in the 1970s to meet German Army requirements, with production split between the two companies. At Eurosatory 2010, Rheinmetall unveiled the MBT Revolution (renamed the MBT Advanced Technology Demonstrator in 2016) upgrade package for the Leopard 2A4, developed as a private venture for export. Indonesia was the first customer for the upgrade
package.
