The Arquus Scarabée (Scarab) is a 4x4 armoured vehicle developed for reconnaissance and scouting missions. Unveiled by Arquus at the 2018 Eurosatory exhibition, it was developed for the French Army’s VBAE (Véhicule Blindé d’Aide à l’Engagement) project, which is expected to be launched in 2025 to replace the service’s Panhard 4x4 VBL (Véhicule Blindé Léger) light reconnaissance vehicles. In order to meet the stealth and manoeuvrability requirements of a scouting vehicle, the Scarabée features a hybrid
diesel-electric drivetrain and four-wheel steering that enables the vehicle to move sideways like a crab.
