The Crusher vehicle was designed by DARPA and the National Robotics Engineering Center to evaluate technologies, such as mobility and autonomy systems, applicable to the UGVs included within the US Army’s Future Combat Systems project that has since been cancelled. A development of the Spinner UGV, it was unveiled in April 2006 after trials at Fort Carson military base in 2006 and 2007 and at Fort Bliss military base in 2007 and 2008. The platform has been integrated with several sensor types to enhance autonomous

mobility and is used as a transition platform for other DARPA vehicle autonomy programmes.
