The Simsek (Şimşek), or Lightning, is a high-speed target drone system that enables autonomous high-speed and low-altitude threat stimulation of aircraft and missiles for air-to-air, ground-to-air, anti-aircraft gunnery systems’ tracking and live-fire training. In an April 2021 speech, the head of Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI), Temel Kotil, stated that the platform could now be utilised as a loitering munition or kamikaze UAV that could be launched from larger UAVs and could carry a 5kg
munition.
