KUS-VT tiltrotor

Region
South Korea
Category
Unmanned platforms
The KUS-VT is a South Korean tiltrotor unmanned aircraft that completed its maiden flight in October 2013 and was publicly exhibited at ADEX 2013. The tiltrotor configuration combines the vertical take-off and landing capability of a helicopter with the high airspeed and altitude ceiling of a fixed-wing aircraft, and ship-based operations are a primary intended application. The KUS-VT's ship compatibility positions it for naval surveillance and maritime patrol roles where sustained airspeed and the ability to
recover to a small vessel deck are both required, giving the Republic of Korea Navy a potential organic UAS capability beyond what conventional rotary-wing platforms can deliver.
