Unmanned K-MAX

Region

Category
Unmanned platforms
The K-MAX optionally piloted helicopter was developed and manufactured by Kaman Aerospace and Lockheed Martin. It is an uncrewed variant of the crewed K-MAX helicopter, utilising the same basic design. It is powered by a Honeywell T5317A-1 turboshaft engine and can be used for cargo carrying missions. The USMC operated two Unmanned K-MAX units in Afghanistan from December 2011 for three years. In 2011, K-MAX became the first UAS to deliver cargo in theatre for the USMC to minimise ground combat logistics patrols’
exposure to IEDs and roadside ambushes.
