The round consists of a tubular steel body and tail cone with a plastic obturating band, a mechanical time fuze and an aluminium tail assembly. It contains an expelling charge (black powder), the illuminating canister and parachute. The tail assembly is fixed with the ignition primer and the propellant increments. This Mortar Bomb is an Infrared Illuminatingbomb developed to be used in the L16Mortar Systems, or equivalent. The InfraredIlluminating Bomb represents a major stepforward for 81mm mortar system

technology. The IR technology allows troops in the fieldto greatly enhanced visibility for night timeoperations and allows friendly forces toeffectively observe the environment throughnight vision equipment.
