The M23RP round is a conventional plastic bodied shotgun shell filled with 18 0.8 cm diameter rubber balls of 75 Durometer Scale hardness. Each rubber ball weighs 0.3 g. The rubber pellet round is intended for use in situations where lethal force is not called for, although the pellets can cause severe injury if fired at extremely close ranges. The effectiveness of the rubber pellet round is affected by the weight of the clothing worn by the individual against whom it is fired. The round is most effective against
personnel wearing light clothing. The shell body is transparent to allow visual confirmation of the contents.
