Armament US M224 60 mm mortar. Development By US Ordnance Department as an improvement upon previous models and to enhance the performance of current mortars. The M720 has been replaced in US procurement by the improved M720A1 (qv). Description The M720 is generally similar to the 60 mm HE Bomb M49A5 described previously, but uses a more powerful propelling charge. The basic components are the M734 multi-option (proximity/PD) fuze, projectile body, M27 aluminium alloy fin, M702 ignition cartridge, obturating ring
