The 0.224 BOZ is the 0.224 BOZ was developed by combining the cartridge case of the 10 mm Auto round with 5.56 × 45 mm bullets of various types. The 0.224 BOZ was developed by Civil Defence Supply of the United Kingdom, specifically for use by police forces and military special operations units having a requirement for a pistol-class cartridge that will defeat soft body armour and light vehicle bodies. The cartridge was developed using the 10 mm Auto cartridge as a basis, necking it down to 5.56 mm diameter and
firing 5.56 mm bullets at higher velocities than pistol-class cartridges to achieve almost double the velocity and effective range of standard 9 × 19 mm cartridges. The cartridge has a bottlenecked, brass, rimless case with various types of 5.56 × 45 mm bullets loaded. Compatible platforms include suitably chambered pistols and sub-machine guns.
