The 8 × 56R mm Hungarian Mannlicher is rimmed, bottlenecked, Berdan primed, brass case. This was developed in Austria in the late 1920s for the Solothurn machine gun and was subsequently adopted by Hungary as a replacement for the 8 × 50R Mannlicher rifle and machine gun cartridge. Although the 7.92 mm Mauser round was adopted during 1939-45, and the 7.62 × 39 mm M43 subsequently became the service round, some stocks of 8 mm weapons remained in reserve. The bullet is streamlined, with a lead core in a steel

jacket. They were subsequently disposed of and have occasionally turned up in dissident hands in Africa. Compatible platforms include hungarian M35M bolt-action rifles; Solothurn MG 30 S (S 2-200) machine gun; possibly some Maxim machine guns.
