Armament All 120 mm smoothbore mortars. Development By TDA for 120 mm mortars in French service and for general use. Originally developed by Hotchkiss-Brandt, it was manufactured for the French Army until 1966 and since then for French service by other contractors. It has also been licensed to various other countries. Description This is a conventional streamlined bomb, with four gas check rings around the waist and an alloy tailboom and fins. The body may be of steel or of pearlitic malleable cast iron.

Propulsion is by a primary cartridge in the tailboom and seven secondary increments in horseshoe containers that fit around the boom in front of the fins. A variant of this bomb has the HE content mixed with dye so as to produce a coloured smoke cloud on detonation, enabling observers to distinguish the fall of shot from a particular mortar or sub-unit when several weapons are firing on the same target.
