In July 2016, the New Zealand government approved the NZ$493 million ($338 million) Maritime Sustainment Capability project to replace the 30-year old tanker HMNZS Endeavour in Royal New Zealand Navy service. The new 173m-long auxiliary replenishment (AOR) ship HMNZS Aotearoa, built by Hyundai Heavy Industries, will conduct a range of missions including maritime sustainment, and humanitarian and disaster relief operations. The ship is due to be delivered in June
2020.
