The Bob Hope Class consists of seven USN Military Sealift Command’s Large, Medium-Speed, Roll-on/Roll-off Ships (LMSR). The programme significantly expanded US sealift capability from the 1990s onwards. The ships are prepositioned to quickly deliver US Army armoured vehicles, tractor-trailers and other equipment and supplies to potential areas of conflict around the world. The ships can also provide surge sealift support of remote military actions. All of the LMSRs have been prime movers of US military equipment
during the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.
