Region
Netherlands
Category
Marine
The Karel Doorman class consists of one Joint Support Ship (JSS) in service with the Dutch Navy. The vessel was ordered in 2009 to replace the ageing support ships HNLMS Zuiderkruis and HNLMS Amsterdam, which have both been decommissioned. The vessel was constructed at Damen’s Romanian shipyard, with outfitting taking place in Vlissingen. The vessel is a robust multi-functional platform designed for maritime support, strategic sealift and sea-basing missions in the open ocean as well as littoral waters. Karel
Doorman entered service with the Dutch Navy in 2015 and can also be used by the German Navy.
