The BRF (bâtiments ravitailleurs de force) logistic support ships (LSS), also known as force replenishment vessels, have been ordered by the French Navy to replace their ageing Durance-class command and supply ships. Four LSS are to be built between Fincantieri and Chantiers de L’Atlantique based on Fincantieri’s Vulcano-class design, which has been completed for the Italian Navy. The ships will provide long-term support for France’s blue-water combat
fleet.
