The Project 21180M icebreakers are being built for the Russian Navy to follow the initial Project 21180 icebreaker. Three next-generation diesel-electric icebreakers are planned to lead Russian naval ships and vessels to remote bases. They will also be capable of towing and delivering cargoes and rendering assistance to ships in distress in ice conditions.
