The Ivan Papanin class (Project 23550) will consist of two missile-carrying ice-class patrol ships for the Russian Navy. The ships are currently under construction at Admiralty Shipyards, with the first ship expected to be delivered in 2023. The multi-purpose Arctic patrol vessels have been designed for the protection of Arctic water resources and for towing detained vessels to port. They are also the first of their kind to be heavily armed, allowing the vessels to knock out ships as well as coastal and airborne
targets.
