The Mizuho- class large patrol boats are a new class under entering service with the Japanese Coast Guard. The class is to consist of two ships, the first-in-class Mizuho (PLH-41) and its sister ship Shunkō (PLH-42). The vessels have been built by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries’ Shimonseki Shipyard & Machinery Works and were delivered between August 2019 and February 2020. The patrol ships will be responsible for responding to Chinese ships in the waters around the Senkaku
Islands.
