Six Hayabusa-class missile patrol boats serve with the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, with the lead vessel entering service in 2002 and the final two commissioned in March 2004. The design incorporates radar-signature-reduction measures to improve survivability in contested littoral environments. Each boat is armed with anti-ship missiles and a gun armament, giving the JMSDF a fast, capable inshore strike platform optimised for operations in Japan's coastal
waters.
