Six M21 patrol boats were formally commissioned into the Royal Thai Navy on 30 November 2016, replacing ten older vessels acquired through US military aid between 1968 and 1976. The boats were built by Thai shipbuilder Marsun with an aluminium hull structure suited to coastal operations in both the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea. The M21 is designed for patrol, interdiction, and constabulary missions in shallow coastal and inshore waters, providing the Royal Thai Navy with a more capable and maintainable
inshore patrol fleet.
