The Kingston Class undertakes both a minehunter role and a coastal patrol role with the Royal Canadian Navy. A total of 12 were built by Halifax Shipyards and commissioned between 1996 and 1999. However, it was announced in December 2013 that two of the ships were to be taken from service as a cost-cutting measure, at which time it was reported that only seven were
