The Guardian-class Pacific Patrol Boats are being manufactured under the Pacific Patrol Boats Replacement project by the Australian shipbuilding company Austal. The project is aimed at replacing the existing Pacific Patrol Boats fleet with Australia donating the patrol vessels to 13 Pacific Island nations. The first of 21 vessels to be built began construction in July 2017 and was handed over to the Government of Papua New Guinea in November
2018.
