The Taepyungyang-class large patrol vessels, also referred to as OPVs, are in service with Korean Coast Guard. 13 vessels entered service between 1994 and 2015, while a further vessel is under construction. A 15th vessel has been announced but has not yet been ordered. The designs of the vessels vary across the class as they have been built by three separate shipbuilders; Hanjin Heavy Industries and Construction (HHIC), Hyundai Heavy Industries and STX Offshore & Shipbuilding. The coast guard vessels have been
built following naval vessel standards.
