Five Samar-class offshore patrol vessels serve with the Indian Coast Guard, with the lead ship commissioned in 1996 and the last in 2008. Each vessel is equipped with a hangar and flight deck capable of operating the HAL Dhruv helicopter, and carries five high-speed interceptor boats for boarding and pursuit operations. The Samar class forms a core element of the Indian Coast Guard's medium-endurance patrol capability, supporting EEZ surveillance, search and rescue, and anti-smuggling operations along India's
extensive coastline.
