The Heritage class Offshore Patrol Cutter (OPC) is under construction for the USCG to bridge the capability gap between the National Security Cutter, which patrols the open ocean and the Fast Response Cutter, which operates closer to shore. The vessels are being built by Eastern Shipbuilding Group and Austal USA to replace the current 29 medium-endurance cutters. Nine OPCs are currently on order with the Coast Guard, which describes the OPC programme as its top acquisition
priority.
