Modules for the Royal New Zealand Navy Protector-class (Otago-class) OPVs were manufactured at the Tenix Defence (now BAE Systems Australia) Whangerai shipyard in New Zealand before assembly at the company’s yard in Williamstown, Australia. Both ships entered service in 2010. They carry one SH-2G Seasprite helicopter and two RIBs. They are based on an STX Marine Canada design but lengthened to accommodate a helicopter landing deck and
ice-strengthened.
