Six Huon-class minehunters serve with the Royal Australian Navy, commissioned between 1999 and 2003. The class is based on the Italian Gaeta design, with the lead vessel's hull built in Italy and the remaining five constructed at the ADI (now Thales Australia) shipyard in Newcastle, New South Wales. The Huon class provides the RAN with a dedicated mine countermeasures capability, combining sonar systems, remotely operated mine disposal vehicles, and a hull optimised to minimise acoustic, magnetic, and pressure
signatures in mine-threat environments.
