The Awaji- class mine countermeasures vessels (MCMV) are an improved variant of the Hirashima class, in service with the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force. The Awaji class has been built to replace the Yaeyama class ships and first entered service in 2017. Built by Japan Marine United, the class will consist of four ships, with funding allocated for a fourth in 2020. The first three ships had entered service by March 2021, while the fourth is planned to be commissioned in March
2024.
